Hundreds of athletics heroes and journalists have travelled to Barcelona this week as the IAAF celebrates its centenary.
The regular gala that usually takes place in Monaco has been moved to the Catalan capital as it will mark the official start of the celebrations.
120 athletes that have shone on the global scene will be attending the event, as well as many other family members of the athletics association, as they pay tribute to some of the greatest moments over the last 100 years.
There is an action packed couple of days which culminates in the 2012 male and female athlete of the year celebrations on Saturday evening.
The men’s section sees Jamaican sprint king Usain Bolt go head to head against 800m record holder David Rudisha and USA hurdles star Aries Merritt.
The Women’s section is a close contest too with Britain Jessica Ennis up against Allyson Felix of the USA and Valerie Adams of New Zealand.
