This January sees some of the biggest sporting events take place. The Sporting Week has a look at some of the contests that will be happening in the month.
The FA Cup third round kicks off on the opening weekend, with the big boys returning to cup action this year. One of the highlights will see West Ham united Face Manchester United.
Chelsea will be hoping they can take the crown again however, whilst Arsenal and the Manchester clubs will be hoping to bring the cup back to their trophy cabinets.
The African Cup of Nations also starts on the 19th January with the BBC showing most of the action. The tournament will conclude on the 10th February. Some of the group game highlights include Ivory Coast V Algeria (30th) and Ghana V Mali (24th).
With the indoor track and field season begging the traditional Grand Prix in Glasgow will take place at the end of the month, with Olympic champions Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis expected to compete.
The 17th January sees the regular NBA event in London at the O2 Arena. The New York Knicks will face the Detriot Pistons
The Australian Open tennis Grand Slam starts in mid-January too with Novak Djokovic hoping to retain his crown and Brit Andy Murray looking to take a second career Grand Slam title.
The Brit has been in Miami training for the event and in years gone past reached the final of the competition in Melbourne.
The Women’s One Day international Cricket World Cup in India also starts at the end of the month, so warm up matches will continue to take place during the month.
There are as always many winter sports coming to their climax as well as snooker and NFL games continuing through the month, and The Sporting Week will continue to cover all the best action.
