One of the highlights of any championships is the men’s 4x400m and this year will be no different. With the Indoor circuit starting in the UK this weekend with big regional championships  we hope to get you in the mood for the coming months with a look back at some classic duels.

Last time out in Paris, the final saw Russia, Belgium, Great Britain, France Netherlands and Poland battle it out.

The race was a great affair with the lead changing hands on numerous occasions  The Belgians took it out first, but then the French, Russian and GB teams clawed their way back into it and had a huge fight on the smaller indoor track.

In the end, their was less than a second between the top four, with France taking gold from GB and Belgium. Russia were the unfortunate losers on this occasion in fourth.

The event also saw the disqualification of the Dutch team is an action packed finale.

The second classic final of the event happened in 2007 when Great Britain where awarded the gold after the victors Germany are disqualified for a push in the race.

The event, taking place in Birmingham was a fiery affair, with Germany, the hosts GB, France, Poland, Russia and Romania all battling it out for gold.

The top four of Russia, Germany, GB and Poland had been battling the whole way, but the real drama happened on the final leg.

As the German Bastian Swillims moved up he placed an arm on the Russian Artem Sergeyenkov who had moved out from lane one. The Russian fell and after an appeal the Germans were disqualified.

Again it had been an excellent finale to a cracking race.
