Arsenal became only the second team to beat Bayern Munich in Germany tonight, but to no avail as the Gunners went out on the away goals rule.
Trailing 3-1 from the first leg at the Emirates, Arsene Wenger’s men faced an uphill battle. But the side started well with an early goal from France International Oliver Giroud.
The Germans, who haven lost since October battled hard and made it tricky for the English side.
Knowing they had to score three, Arsenal kept attacking and produced arguably their best performance of the season.
With five minutes remaining, Laurent Koscielny put the ball in the net to set up a dramatic finish.
Unfortunately last years runners up held on and the Gunners go out.
As a result, Norwich City remain the only team to get a victory and progress in the competition against Bayern Munich.
On that night it was Jeremy Goss who scored the winner.
But back to tonight’s action and the result shows that Arsenal can play the big boys.
If they can get some consistency now, and follow the example of Manchester United then they will become a strong force once more.
